The NOMAD Chicken Difference: Why We Move Our Chickens Daily

Sep 3, 2025

In today’s agricultural landscape, practices are often dictated by the lowest possible cost, frequently at the expense of nutritional value, animal health, and environmental sustainability. But what if there was a farm that produced food and raised livestock according to nature’s rules?

At the heart of Farm Daddeaw’s philosophy is an ancient yet revolutionary practice: we move our chickens to fresh pasture every single day. This isn’t just a quirky routine; it’s the cornerstone of our commitment to animal welfare, ecological stewardship, and ultimately, producing the most flavorful chicken you’ve ever tasted.

We call our poultry “NOMAD Chicken.” Just like historical nomadic tribes who moved seasonally in search of abundant pastures, our chickens are constantly on the move. This daily relocation is a true return to nature’s way—a system designed for health, vitality, and unparalleled quality. In this article, we’ll explain why this daily movement is the essential ingredient that makes our chicken the absolute best.

Following Nature’s Blueprint: The Philosophy of Movement

In nature, birds aren’t confined to cages; they roam, forage, and explore new territories constantly. Industrial farming, however, has stripped away this fundamental instinct, trapping them in crowded, stagnant sheds. We believe that to raise the healthiest, happiest chickens, we must mimic nature.

Our core principle is to allow chickens to fully express their “chicken-ness.” This means providing an environment that encourages their natural behaviors. Daily relocation unlocks three key benefits that industrial farming systems can never offer:

Fresh “Salad Bar” Every Day

The primary reason for daily movement is to provide our chickens with constant access to a fresh “salad bar” – an abundant source of grasses, legumes, and protein-rich insects. Every morning, they move with their mobile coops onto a vibrant, fresh patch of grass.

  • Fresh Grass: Chickens are omnivores, and fresh green forage is a vital part of their diet. Grass provides essential vitamins and nutrients, such as Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E, which are then absorbed directly into the chicken meat.
  • Insect Buffet: Pastures are living ecosystems. Our chickens happily scratch and peck for earthworms, beetles, grasshoppers, and other insects. This natural, protein-rich diet contributes to their robust health and develops a profound depth of flavor in their meat.
  • Constant Exercise: Foraging for these delectable treats keeps our chickens active throughout the day. They spend their time scratching, pecking, and exploring, which develops strong, lean muscles. This continuous movement is key to achieving a firm yet tender chicken texture.

The Pinnacle of Cleanliness and Comfort

Imagine never having to clean your bathroom because it automatically cleans itself. That’s essentially what happens with our rotational grazing system. In industrial chicken farms, birds live on accumulated waste, creating unsanitary conditions that breed disease and necessitate the use of antibiotics and vaccines.

Our “NOMAD” method is different. By moving the chickens daily, we leave their waste behind, ensuring they are always on clean ground and breathing fresh air. This significantly reduces stress and the risk of illness, eliminating the need for antibiotics or vaccines. The manure they leave behind isn’t a problem; it’s a “gift” that acts as natural fertilizer, enriching the soil and stimulating the next flush of grass growth—a perfect, sustainable cycle

Our Method: Mobile Coops in Practice

So, how do we move our chickens daily? The answer lies in our specially designed floor-less mobile coops.

These coops are simple, consisting of a sturdy frame that protects against predators and weather. Crucially, our coops have no floor. Every morning, we move the coop one length forward onto a fresh section of pasture that has been rested for months. The chickens inside the coop simply walk forward with it.

This process is a serene morning ritual. The chickens, accustomed to the routine, eagerly await the move, knowing a fresh world of delicious food awaits them. The floor-less design allows them to instinctively scratch the earth, dust bathe, and peck at plants and insects with complete freedom.

The Space to Thrive: A Monumental Difference

Perhaps the most stark illustration of the NOMAD Chicken difference is the amount of space each chicken has—because it’s a necessity, not a luxury.

Chickens in conventional industrial systems are typically allotted about 0.1 square meters of space per bird for their entire lives—smaller than two sheets of A4 paper. They are packed so tightly they can barely move, let alone express natural behaviors.

Our method presents the complete opposite. Every day, we move a flock of 60 chickens onto a fresh 12-square-meter section of pasture. Over time, this rotational system means that each individual chicken has access to a fresh area equivalent to 6 square meters, nearly the size of two king-sized beds!

Think about that: our chickens have access to 60 times more access to space than industrially raised chickens!

This isn’t just a minor improvement; it’s a paradigm shift in agriculture, prioritizing humane animal treatment and environmental regeneration, which directly correlates to meat quality and ultimately, consumer health.

The Result: The Taste of Vitality

The culmination of this entire process—the pasture-fed nutrition, constant exercise, clean environment, and ample space—is a chicken of superior quality. You can see it, feel it, and most importantly, taste it.

  • Golden Skin and Fat: The rich yellow color of the skin and fat is a direct result of their grass-rich diet, high in beta-carotene. This isn’t artificial coloring; it’s the color of nutrition from the pasture.
  • Firm-Yet-Tender Texture: Consistent exercise develops lean muscle, resulting in meat that is firm but not tough, with a pleasing texture that speaks to an active life. This contrasts sharply with the often soft and watery texture of factory-farmed chicken.
  • Deep, Rich Flavor: This is where the magic truly happens. The diverse diet of grasses and insects, combined with healthy muscle development, creates a chicken with a genuinely deep, complex, and savory flavor. It’s the taste of what chicken should be—robust, juicy, and immensely satisfying.

When you choose NOMAD Chicken, you’re not just choosing a meal; you’re supporting an agricultural system that works with nature’s rules, honors the animals, and regenerates the land. You’re choosing your own health.
